A jar full of rhinestones…does it get any better than that!?!

Star Sun Catchers

My first project is these cute little stars. They will be going in the window to catch the sunlight

1. Start with cardboard shapes. These are from Hobby Lobby.

2. Paint with gold craft paint, or whatever color you like, and allow to dry. Craft paint doesn’t take long to dry to the touch.

3. Attach acrylic rhinestones. I used E-6000 glue for making these stars. It melts the silver backing on the rhinestones and gives them an added shimmer. A hot-glue gun also works well.

Treasure Boxes

My next project is little treasure boxes. They are a fun way to store all kinds of little goodies.

1. Start with cardboard boxes. These are from Hobby Lobby.

2. Paint with gold, silver, black craft paint or whatever color you like, and allow to dry. Craft paint doesn’t take long to dry to the touch.

3. Attach acrylic rhinestones. This time I used my trusty hot-glue gun.

The Crafterella Sisters Are At It Again!!!

The Crafterella Sisters will be participating in the Monrovia Family Festival Street Fair this Friday evening 5pm-9pm. This street fair is a great community event in the heart of Old Town Monrovia, with everything from entertainment, amusement, and crafts to a farmer’s market and lots of great food. Come out for a great family night and stop by our booth. Here’s a preview of the goodies you will find at our booth tomorrow…

Floor Pillow

This is such a cute type of pillow, and very unique. I have been seeing this floor pillow made by many in the blogging world and just had to make my own. My sons love sitting on it to read books or for wrestling on The original tutorial uses a jelly roll and joins about a million triangles to form a circle pillow top. It is gorgeous, but I could not bring myself to sew that many seems. So instead of jelly roll strips with rectangular dimensions of 2.5″ x 22″, I opted to cut my own rectangles from 45″ wide fabric with dimensions of 6″ x 22″.

Here is the original tutorial, which I followed for the most part.

If you want to make the simpler version of the floor pillow that I made, start here and then go to the tutorial step 13 to continue:

SUPPLIES

2.5 yards of fabric (45″ wide fabric) are needed: half for the pillow top and half for the pillow bottom.

2 packages of piping

2 to 4  24oz bags of poly-fill (it depends on the amount of poofiness you want.

2  1.5″ cover buttons

PROCESS

1. Cut out 13 rectangles with the dimensions of 6″ x 22″.

2. Then cut them diagonally to create 26 triangles. (I did not leave a 1/4″ thickness at one of the points of the triangle like the tutorial did in step 4 of the tutorial.)

3. When sewing the triangles together (with right-sides together), be sure to join the perpendicular side of the first triangle to the diagonal side of the second triangle. You’ll notice in the photo that the triangles don’t quite line up. That’s alright because we will trim the edge of the circle once it is assembeled.

      

Now continue constructing the pillow according to the tutorial, starting at step 13. Here is the link to the tutorial again:

The Pom-Pom Wreath

I just love wreaths; and I know I will be making lots of them as the new season starts rolling in. As soon as I saw this tutorial I had to get started making it! It is just so cute and fun to make. The tutorial can be found using this link:

Art Projects for Pre-Schoolers

My sons and I have been having so much fun with art projects lately. I wanted to share some of them here. These ideas all came from other bloggers; you can click on the subtitles to see the detailed instructions and materials lists.

Nature Walk Art

For this art project we digressed a bit from the original blog idea. We glued all our “treasures” found on a Nature Walk to pieces of kitchen foil using watered-down glue. Once dried, I sprayed them with Matte Clear Acrylic Paint to seal it. Then frame and hang!

 

 

Color Wheel with Frosting Paint

We changed it up for this project as well. Instead of using paint to make our color wheels, we used colored frosting. Take one jar of frosting and split into three small bowls. Add 10 drops of food coloring to each bowl (red, blue, and yellow) and stir well. Then have fun painting! Provide graham crackers for “sampling” the artwork as well

 

 

Q-Tip Trees

These cute little trees are painted using Q-Tips as paint brushes. It’s a fun way to for your kids to experiment with a new technique. You can draw the outline of the tree for you child before, or let them free-hand their trees themselves. And using an egg-carton is a great way to keep the paint colors separated and contained. As you can see, Michael did not want to stop making them!

Berry Pancake Muffins

These little cuties are such fun to make, and so simple too! It’s basically just baking pancake batter, but of course you can put any spin on it you want to. I usually like to make a large batch and freeze them for a quick breakfast on those crazy mornings. There are many versions being whipped up in the blog world, but here is my version of the Pancake Muffin:

Berry Pancake Muffins

YIELD: 33 mini muffins

INGREDIENTS

4c prepared pancake batter

1c chopped berries (fresh or frozen)

Maple Syrup for dipping

PREPARATION

1. Pre-heat oven to 350^F and grease mini-muffin baking pans.

2. Prepare pancake batter according to recipe. I used Pamela’s Gluten-Free Pancake Mix and made 2 batches of batter.

3. Place a small spoonful of pancake batter in each cup, then place 3 or 4 berry pieces in the center of each cup. Cover each cup with one more small spoonful of batter.

4. Bake until an inserted toothpick comes out clean; about 10 to 11 minutes.

5. Cool on a wire rack and serve with maple syrup for dipping.
